Solved Using 'sound recorder ' in Windows 7

Specs: Windows 7
I have just discovered 'sound recorder' and used it to record some audio off YouTube...but don't tell them. However it picks up external sound from the mic input. If I turn off the microphone device the 'sound recorder' is no longer available.

How do I continue to record from the Internet ( internal) but turn off outside noise (external)?

If you are using the Windows sound Recorder I wouldnt bother. It is very basic and probably wont do why you want.

Instead I would download and install Audacity. It is free and will everything you could ever need with audio This will record live streaming providing you have a sound card with a built in mixer which most do these days.

Audacity will also allow you to edit the file, insert and delete stuff and save the file in various formats including MP3 which Sound Recorder wont.

I agree Audacity is good but it should be possible to use Sound Recorder without the microphone. It's a matter of selecting the appropriate devices and settings. I used it on this computer for a while (Win 8.1).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
