I have a very nice laptop with a burned mobo. So, it is done as far as im concerned except for the parts. I want to use it's parts for the desktop that i am building. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove it's lcd screen and use it as my tower's monitor? Also, is it possible to use it's harddrive? It has the typical laptop hdd. But, I don't know the make or model of this beast because the person I bought it from had it modified so much that they had to remove any manufacturer details. And all my internet searches for it's model number etc. came up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First of all, I would think replacing the motherboard on the very nice laptop would be the smarter choice then trying to use it as a desktop.

That is just not going to work....

If you would like to find out the details on the notebook try using aida32 unless you cant get into the laptop at all.

I am sure you could pick up replacement parts on ebay no problem.

No i cant get into the pile at all. And since I dont know the make and model of my laptop ebay wont be able to help me unless these things are universal. Would any mobo work?

The hard drive should be usable. You will need mounting brackets and a drive adapter cable $6-$20.

The lcd is much harder, you need a backlight power supply and a video display card configured to drive your display. I've seen cards in the $400-$500 range. These are not high performance cards. Best sell the computer for parts, but you don't know what really works.

The laptop should have the Manufacturer listed on it somewhere as well as some sort of model number or serial number.

Then you will be able to get a compatible motherboard.

If someone scratched off the serial numbers then it is probably a stolen laptop.

The display is the most valuable part. That is one of the first things to get damaged on laptops. You should be able to sell it.

No this laptop is definetly not stolen(i bought it from a friend who's dad used it at work until he upgraded and gave this one to his son) I had it up and running for a while
until i removed the processor. Long story short everything works except for the mobo and cpu. Now, wizard fred, where can i find one of those adapter cables for my hdd? It has a working OS! It would be much cheaper than buying a $50 western digital. But seriously could just any notebook mobo work?

Here is first source of the adapter found by google. $13

The drive could fit into most other laptops. You could try finding a replacement motherboard or the same laptop with a bad screen.

Ok I got an adapter on ebay for $6.50!
I now have a 6.4 gig laptop hdd for my tower. Now all i need is a case(optional:))
and an atx psu. $30 at my local computer store. Bringing my pc to a total of $68.50!
It has 500mhz celeron and 128mb ram + 52 24 52 cdrw and 31/2 inch floppy soundcard modem and crappy old monitor. Thanks for all the help guys. Im giving up on the laptop since i tore it apart and googled every number on it with no luck and put it back together. It should fetch at least $30
on ebay i should think with no hdd and a burned mobo.
