I want to be able to do it over teh network as i dont want wires coming from my laptop? Any ideas of any software that will work, need to take into account too that desktop is on vista 64bit and laptop is on vista 32bit.

From what I can decipher, you want to access your laptop on your desktop computers screen remotely. How about enabling and using remote desktop, pretty sure that poor excuse of an OS, Vista, still has it. The other alternatives are VNC or PCAnywhere. Additionally, don't expect super fast refresh or frame rates as there simply isn't enought bandwidth in your average home network to support them.

I use a Mac, still want to take my advice... LOL

Ok, Well i am currently running a 1gbit connection between computers, if i connect my laptop to the local network via the 1gbit connection should i see beter refresh rates?

Simply put no, remote desktop simply won't let you do it. Besides, didn't you say you didn't want any cables coming out of your laptop? Remote desktop is fine for most things, just don't expect to play any high frame rate games with it, there just isn't enough bandwidth, even at 1Gbps.
