I just bought myself a digital camera and from now on I am going to have to export pictires to my PC which does not have a USB port.
Please anyone help me with suggestions how to get a used USB port at a reasonable price, and what else I should know and need to get (drivers..?) before buying one.
Thank you.

Do you have a desktop or laptop computer? If you have a desktop you need a PCI USB add in card. They can be had for $12.00 and up, new. The necessary drivers will come with the board. Check here for some ideas on what is available: http://www.nextag.com/buyer/outpdir.jsp?nxtg=3b0287_22C7044D14AB42C9&doSearch=y&search=pci+usb

The BIOS on your PC must have USB support for an add-in card to work. USB PCI cards are under a tenner in the UK, PCMCIA more like £25.

If you have the manual for your motherboard, see if it says anything about supporting USB. Some boards had an optional USB "header" that plugged into pins on the board for USB ports. If you don't have the manual, see if you can locate the make/manufacturer of your board, then go to the manufacturer's website to see what info you can find out.

Some older boards didn't support USB, but there are USB PCI cards available. You should be able to find them at CompUSA, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc for about $20.

Here's an example:

Hi yavor:
Check using link address below for new cheap USB (version 1 not 2, you need Win XP for that to work right, at least I think so) that plugs into a desktop PCI slot to work.
