Use ECC DDR memory for DDR?

OK, I'm cheap. I have some free ECC DDR PC2100 memory modules that I'd like to use in a motherboard that takes DDR. Since I don't have a motherboard that takes DDR I can't test it.
Can I use ECC DDR memory in a motherboard that takes regular DDR memory? I know that I won't get the ECC function but I just want to build a new system without buying memory.

normally you can not. it seems most consumer type mobos dont take ECC memory these days although i did recently have a gigabyte socket 462 mobo that did take ECC DDR memory. You often see ECC memory going quite cheap on ebay. I assume it goes quite cheap as not many people can make use of it. It is usually suited to business type servers.
