is there any way to use ur cable modem to watch tv through your pc or do u need to split the cable into a tv tuner?

I say get this one... I have it and love it.. it is a tv tuner card and fm reciever..
should run around $50-60 aprox..

and yes you will have to split the cable before your cable modem.. having the extra cable running into your tv tuner card..

To tap your Max signal. Turn on a box, and tune to a channel. Start ethereal, and do a capture. Then on the results list, there will be a mpeg-2 stream going to an IP via UDP protocol.
For example: my settings were 239.255.0.75 port 9406
I take that and start video LAN, open a network stream, under UDP/RTP Multicast, enter the IP & port. Hit OK and enjoy! I haven't figured out how to save presets yet, so IF you find out lemme know.
