I plan on using 2 USB ports (the only 2 available)--one will be for a DSL modem, the other for an external Hard drive. Would this overtax the system? I am planning on upgrading my memory and processor.

Yes, you may use both USB connections at the same time. If you need more USB ports, just buy a USB router for $15.00 at your local electronics store. Also, this is the Windows 3.1 foum for future reference.

There is only one stupid question, the question that is not asked.

Thomas,
I'm assuming that if you have (or are buying) an external HD that it's going to be a USB 2.0 device?
If so, by the sounds of your computer I think you only have on board USB 1.1?
This is not a problem, but your external HD won't be running to it's fullest potential.

If the 2 devices are externally powered ten you my hve problem, i couldn`t get my usb 56k modem and my usb webcam running t the same time. I cures this by haveing a com port modem nd then webcm worked hppily, eventually i got a powered usb hub and out of interest tried the usb modem and webcam together again and they worked fine, obviously the webcam was drawing a lot of power from the motherboard usb ports and the mobo couldn`t handle it
