I saw some sites on the internet that they say that u can use 2 56K modems to get up to 112Kb/s dial-up internet access but with 2 phone lines!!!!! Anyone knows any trick of how to connect 2 modems under just 1 phone line and get better speeds???? Please answer anyone who knows!

What you are referring to is multilink. This requires that your ISP supports it and it requires two phone lines [plus twice the cost from your ISP]. And if you think about it for a second, you have to have two copper lines per modem/phone line how could you physically make 4 lines go into two? We're not multiplexing here just modulate and demodulating. Sorry to rain on your parade.

The Multilink feature under Windows 98 upwards lets you dial in using 2 modems with 2 phone lines as long as your ISP supports it. You would obviously have twice the phone bill though!! Someone has probably done the 1 line,2 modem thing but I can't really think of any benefit. The 56k technology is already pushing the envelope of analogue connections over the PSTN anyway, so using 2 modems would be throttled in some way even using sophisticated multiplexing. You can't get a pint in a half pint pot!! You can get your modem to perform better using certain tweak settings but I'd stick with the 1 modem and go ADSL,DSL,CABLE if you need faster speeds.

Just wanted to add, if you're going to go through the expense of 2 phone lines and 2 iSP's, you're better off just migrating to broadband. (DSL or Cable)

Most local ISPs don't limit a given user's account to one concurrent login. You can login with one computer/modem and login to that same account at the same time with another computer/modem. :) (May not work for everyone but I have been able to with most of my accounts in my dialup days. Split the cost with a friend...lol)
