Hi all,
I posted a problem with my USB ports a couple of weeks back which I managed to "fix" thanks to Hero.
First of all my mobo: BFG (chaintech) - only one model
I am having an additional problem. When my portable hard drive is plugged into the USB port the BIOS hangs while posting. If I turn the HD off during this process the BIOS continues and posts fine.
I get horrible transfer times for copying/pasting files even though the HD is plugged into a 2.0 USB port.
I have SP2 installed, BFG does not offer USB drivers or a BIOS update to fix this.
I've also checked www.usbman.com (per old posts in this forum), but have found no solution.
Any ideas?

Yes I had the same problem. Check the BIOS setting and look for something called usb mass storage reset delay. Try to disable it. Why don't you just boot with the external drive turned off?
Intel P4 3.2E Ghz@ 3.8Ghz
Asus P4P800-E Deluxe
Kingston 2GB PC3200
Asus AX800 Pro w/ZM80D-HP
WD Raptor 37 GB
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300 GB
Asus E616P1
Plextor PX-740A
Reserator 1

You may be able to solve all your USB ills by getting an add-in USB card. My motherboard was made before the USB 2.0 specs were "solid". I had to get a USB card to use my USB external HD reliably, (even from DOS).
If you look for one, ones with NEC chips on it are the most compatible.
WILL POST FOR FOOD.

Heh. That is what I have had to do thus far. I would prefer for it not to be a problem though. Thanks for the BIOS setting response. I'll give it a go.

My USB2 HD transfer times are half the speed of an internal IDE drive.
Sorry, I do not check for private messages

I just bought a FireLite USB portable hard drive and i have having some problems. the hardware was recognized but a window pops up saying i might not have permission to access some files. Then when I click on the drive under My Computer it says "Windows cannot find Lexplores.exe which the program needs to open" then it shows a browse window to located the file. I'm not sure if its Iexplores.exe or Lexplores.exe..looks like a capital I or lower case l. I have Windows Me. Can anyone help me?? I tried uninstalling it and re-installing it but it still says the same thing. help!!!
