Here is a question I have, ok I have a Cannon i860, it can use either LPT1 or USB. Other than the USB printing faster, would there be a difference in print quality between the two? If so which prints with better quailty LPT1 or USB?

Thank You,

Jesse

The speed of printing wont be any different either. It is the capabilities of the printer that determine the printing speed, not the speed of data transmission.

One advantage of USB that it may free up the computer for other things while the printer sorts itself out depending on how big its internal buffer is.

I would suggest using the printer port and save the USB ports for other things. The windows print spooler should allow the system to go to other things while the printer is printing.

I always use any other available capability for printing or anything else for that matter. Usb's to me are mostly unstable, suffer from frequent driver issues and as Stuart says the speed won't be any different on usb either.
I have never seen any resource grab either on parallel port that Stuart alludes to "while the printer sorts itself out".
