Is there a way to run an USB device on a parallel port? Is there an adapter available?

I don't believe so but why would you want to? Your Dell has 4 USB ports. If you don't have enough just get a hub.

You can run a parallel device on a USB.

The motherboard that I have is not on my Dell. I am supporting older motherboards that run P90 and P166, Intel 386 and 486. These do not support USB, only parallel.

Tip for the future. Either revamp your spec to show what system you are actually posting about or explain this in the first post.

The page you link to seems to show the opposite of what you're looking for, that is, a cable to connect a parallel device to a computer's USB port. A google search for "USB to parallel" turns up the same cables as "parallel to USB". There may be cables like what you're looking for but I'll bet they're pretty expensive. Then you'd have a system where that cable is worth more than the rest of the PC. A 386, 486--whatever--is what it is. Sometimes attempts to upgrade them aren't cost effective. They are probably worth more as vintage items or gold scrap than working PCs.

Many manufacturers make PCI USB 2.0 cards:

But they won't work in an ISA-only 386 or 486 and I don't think they'll work in a pentium unless the bios will support USB.

I think they will work if you have PCI and WIN98 or higher.
