usb ports won't work

I reinstalled windows xp on my system (ECS k7s5a mobo, 256 MB RAM, a 60 and 40 GB hard drive) and now the USB ports on the front of my case don't work. Now, I did connect a usb hub that I connected to one of the two usb ports in the back of my case . . . can that make a difference? In the USB ports in back (there are 2) I have a midi controller plugged into one, and the hub in the other (which has my printer and scanner connected to it).
I am not seeing anything unusual in BIOS, and I'm not sure what to look for in device manager. There are no yellow exclamation marks or anything. Why won't my front usb ports work? Oh, and they did work in the past.

Your front USB port are probably on a separate header on the motherboard. Have you enabled this second header in the BIOS?? Did you connect the wires for the front USB port to the motherboard??

Do the two USB ports built into the motherboard work??? If not check that USB support is enabled in the BIOS.

Thanks.
I didn't change anything on the mobo. It did work before. I don't see any options in BIOS to change anything on the second usb header. They are connected, and I double-checked to be certain they were secure. No, I did not reinstall the mobo chipset drivers after installation. I could check that. But I never had to do that in the past (this isn't the first time I've had to reinstall windows).

Summary: Make sure the wiring from the front ports is still connected and intact. If you've had to remove the front of the case, such as when installing an optical drive, and/or possibly because you needed to...
