Specs: Windows XP
Last friday, I caught a student on my computer before class started. He had a usb stick in my computer and was printing some pictures from it. But my avg caught a virus and I made him leave. He said it was a "false-positive reading" RIGHT! Later that day, my usb mouse quit, then both usb plotters and my usb printer. I have run virus scan and found virus and removed it. Still no usb action (device mgr says its all ok). So I uninstalled all usb info and drives. Rebooted. hardware mgr found and reinstalled them. Still not working. Then I uninstalled them, unplugged everything, even unplugged unit. Turned back on.. hardware Mgr found usb ports and reinstalled. but they are still not working. I have 2 on front and 4 in back. Now what??

The virus probably disabled the USB ports somewhere in the registry and even reinstalling the drivers doesn't reset them.

I know you've got antivirus software installed but try downloading and running malwarebytes:

That's the free version and appears to be a new one. See if it turns up anything. When you install it, it'll ask about upgrading. Just ignore that and run it as it is.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
