Reply: (edit) Even though hot swaping is suppose to be one of the benifits of U.S.B. In other words plug & play while your system is already up and running. I have found with some devices its best to have it already attached when booting up .Also I recently puchased a Thumb drive 256M.B. USB, claimed with Windows Me and XP it was plug and play. However upon the frist use it would not completly detect the device prompting me to extract some drivers from a .cab file on my H.D. My O/S is a OEM version of Windows Me ! If yours is an upgrade you may have to use the CD to find the additional needed drivers ! I would go to the web site and find out exactly what USB drivers must be installed to run this device and then do a H.D. search and make sure the drivers are in your WINDOWS/DRIVERS folder ! Good Luck Nick

Reply: (edit)WinXP should pick up anything that is USB. Most thumb drives and card readers require drivers for only Win9x - W2K. Are you connecting the devices in the rear of your computer? What device are you trying to connect??

Reply: (edit)I frequently update Windows... no help. I'm pretty sure I'm using the most updated drivers for the device. How would I check? The only 2 real devices I have tried are my webcam and my Dazzle capture card. Neither of them get detected. Plus, I have them hooked up all the time, through every time I've booted my machine. This is a weird problem. Any other advice?

Reply: (edit)Go To: Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager> See if you have any yellow triangles with Astericks, especially in the last entry: Universal Serial Bus (USB). It's likely that you will need to update drivers from here. If you do, WinXP should do it for you automatically. --While you're there, double check that the devices are enabled. But I suspect you need to do a driver update here... Also, you didn't answer an earlier question: Are you plugging in to back of machine, or to front? Do you additional (such as case equipped) ports attached? Disconnect your usb devices, unless they're crucial or boot, check the device manager and then plug them in to see if anything registers.... Let us know more as you investigate... -Good Luck PS I have your board, so I'm a little familiar...

Reply: (edit)Mystery solved! After additional research, I found a comment about the incompatibility of the USB ports with the PCI1 slot on the K7S5A Pro. I pulled the device currently installed in my PCI1 slot and moved it over to the PCI2 slot and the USB ports started working. Thanks for all the suggestions!
