I recentley installed a Seagate 120gb hard drive, 512mb Geil DDR pc3200 ram, and windows xp on my computer. Everything went flawlessly except for one thing. Whenever I plug a device into one of my two onboard USB ports, the system hangs/freezes up. This first happened when I tried to use my external hard drive, I plugged it in and as soon I as I turned it one, the computer froze. It is most likely not a driver issue because I have used the external drive on other computers with the same driver. Also, I tried using my mp3 player and Logitech mouse, upon plug in, they both froze the system. I have enabled the usb ports in the BIOS. I have also unistalled and reinstalled the USB drivers, as well as the mobo drivers. The only problem I have noticed is that my geforce 3 shares irq 16 with the usb root hub. Could this be the problem? However, I disabled the video card so that they would not be sharing the sam IRQ and it still froze things up. I've been all over my bios, unistalled and re-instlled drivers. PLEASE HELP ME. I'm reaching the poing of tears, and don't have a clue what to do anymore. All my information from my old hard drive is on my external drive, so without usb ports, I can't get my backed up files. Please help, thanks.

Hard drive: Seagate 120gb
Ram: Geil 512mb pc3200
Processor: Pentium 4 1.7ghz
Mother Board: MSI Intel 845e
Video Card: MSI GeForce 3 Ti 200 120mb

If all else fails, you could remove the drive from the USB box and hook it up as an IDE drive. This should allow you to recover your data.

Yes I have. I used the external hard drive to back up all my files before I reformated.

I suggest that you go to device manager and remove the USB ports. Re-boot and re-install.
