USB Ports are not working anymore

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4 / 4G

I've built a new pc, but will be using this one only for backup reasons.

It's a Dell Dimension XPS Gen.1 | 3.4GHz | 32-bit | Windows XP.

I have had this problem with original OS installed, but just recently did a clean install by wiping the HDD and installing a new Windows XP. The problem is that none of my USB ports are working (6 in the rear and 2 in the front). They will however charge my battery pack for my Logitech mouse, but the computer never recognizes anything being plugged in. Therefore, there is power to these ports, but they are not recognized by the OS. I have installed a Belkin USB 2.0 4-port card to get me by, but I would like to figure out what has caused this.

Is this a hardware problem with the motherboard or could it somehow be something else. Since I did a clean install, I thought it couldn't have been the OS, but I don't know.

I'd appreciate any advice on getting this back working again.

You probaby need drivers. Start here:

and enter your service tag and see what XP drivers it lists.

You're not really green until you're soylent green.
