Hello everyone!

I've got a kind of strange issue with one of the laptops in my fried's desk (ASUS F5RL): it doesn't recognise any USB PenDrives connecetd to it unless the system is rebooted with the USB key inserted.

How can I solve this annoying problem?
Does it be due to the specific of the laptop itse;lf or is it bounded with the OS (XP Professional).

Thanks a lot in advance for any help!

Have you tried connecting it on different USB ports while in the Windows environment?

The problem may be .. due to the specific of the laptop itself because it is not a normal Windows practice. In other words USB devices are usually plugged in after Windows finished loading.

Might be a problem with the USB Root Hub. Disconnect everything attached thats USB. Reboot the system into safe mode. Go into device manager and delete/uninstall everything under Universal Serial Bus one by one. Reboot back into normal mode and windows will install the drivers for each on it's own. After it's all done try connecting a USB Flash Drive again and it should work.
