I am just wondering...has anybody ever heard of, or seen an ISA USB controller card? The bottom line is, I would like to know of a way to get USB on my 486. It has no PCI slots. Any suggestions other than buy a new computer? (or anything like unto it!)

THere is no such thing as an ISA to /USB controller....even if ther was...the ISA is too slow to keep up with USB. ISA slots are not even close to PCI slots..so ur better off building a new computer or replacing that motherboard even though the case your probabably using is A/T so you might need a new case and then your memory you have wont match...etc..you need a new computer...sorry...build 1..

i believe i have seen such a card (used) but have no idea where you could find one (i have a dx4 myself and i am getting sick and tired of people telling me to build a new one the bottom line is if we wanted to build(or could afford to build)a new computer I would!!!!) but perhaps i want to keep it for old software and dos games!

You may find something at a used or recycled computer shop??/
But if you look around you should be able to pick up a p133 or p200 for less than 50.00 and it likely has on board usb, and for that you'll probally have to pay for a usb card??

kinda old post, but they still make AT mainboards. but kinda rare. they kinda dropped out after the Pentium. I have a Pentium 133mhz and Pentium 100mhz in AT styel mainboards. I even saw a 1ghz AT mainboard. the PS/2 and USB were on cards though. and yes, my AT mobos do have PCI, so it IS USB ready. just so you know.

you would be hard pressed to find a 133mhz with on board usb and if any it would be 1.1

Yeah you should loose that 486 motherboard, a low end pentium (P100) will work fine with a USB PCI controller. Maybe even a slower pentium?

My 81 year old gran is using a P100 with USB printer and scanner. works fine, if not a little slow.

I replaced a 486 motherboard with a Pentium motherboard and 133 CPU years back and was easily done.

Check the computer fairs etc for old boards.
