USB modem not recognised at bootup

December 15, 2011 at 08:48:17
Specs: Windows XP SP3, Celeron / 1.5GB
Recently my USB modem is failing to be recognised at boot-up, giving an Error 797. Using Task Manager and Restart usually achieves a correct reboot with modem recognized but not always. I'm afraid that one day it won't be recognized at all and I shan't be able to get online.

Any advice?

What type of modem is it? Make/model? Does it also have an ethernet port? You might wanna try that instead. If it's strictly USB, the next time there's a problem, rather than rebooting, try unplugging then replugging the USB cable.

Did you check the manufacturer's site to see if a firmware flash is available?
