I've have the microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard 4000 and it's been working fine. All of a sudden when I turn on my computer this morning it's no longer working. I know my usb ports aren't dead because everything else works with them. i've tried my keyboard in another computer and it worked fine. so i'm not sure what the problem is. it seems like my computer is only reading it during the startup? because when i go to device manager, its not listed, but it still has power(the green lights on the board are on). Any help as to how I can fix this problem/what the problem is, would be great.

If your keyboard is corded, it is quite common for the wires inside the cable to break

Yeah, don't know why I didn't think to do a restore a few days back. It seemed to do the trick, at least for now. Thanks for the help.

I thought the resotre seemed to do the trick, but when i restarted my computer the keyboard stopped working again. I've tried everything i could think of and nothing seems to work...reinstalling the software, the restore(as mentioned above), checking my usb ports, etc. The keyboard still doesn't work, or to be more specific, i can use all the customizable keys, but not the 'normal' keys themselves.
And about the keyboard cord, i'm pretty sure thats not it because i've had the keyboard for less than a month and when i plug it into my friends computer it works fine.
Anymore help as to what could possibly be wrong it greatly appreciated.

This guy also describes the problems:
The symptoms are my programs to a crawl and eventually lock up.
Then when I restart, my bios says there is no keyboard present. So I try it in different USB ports on the PC and try it on my USB hubs. No luck. Plug in the old keyboard and reboot fine. Shutdown, plug in the Microsoft 4000 again. Fine for a bit then eventually dies again. Even when the keyboard was the only device I had plugged in USB I had this problem.
Back to the old keyboard for me.

I've found a solution but I'm still not sure what caused the problem, and it does still occasionally happen.
Turn your computer off and unplug it for a few minutes then turn it on, it should work after that but the problem is likely to occur again.
