Hello,
I have recently bought a Plumax 5 1/4 - 3 1/2 USB drive enclosure. I installed an older 6GB hard drive (Quantum Bigfoot TX)in to the enclosure and it works great for a mass storage device under Win Xp Pro. I recently disconnected all my HDD drives and enabled the Boot other device and the Boot from USB HDD device in my bios settings (MB K7VTA3 with VIA KT266A Northbridge & Southbridge Chipset), but when I poped in the Win98 CD and booted from the CD and then tried to install the OS on the USB HDD everything worked fine until it try to format the HDD and then it said there was an error. I tried also to format this USB HDD from Win XP Pro but it said that the drive cannot be formatted close all programs accessing the device and try again. So I installed the 6GB Quantum Bigfoot TX into the IDE cable of the MB and installed Win98 from there. I removed the HDD and reinstalled in the USB HDD enclosure and then tried to boot from the USB HDD enclosure but I keep getting a non system disk error. My question is this, can i boot from this USB enclosure with a HDD installed in it? Or is it just a convient mass storage device? I want to be able to boot an OS from this HDD if possible. Any help is greatly appreciated thanx!
