Heya Folks!
I have a LAN HDD Enclosure, capable of obviously connecting to a Router, or via USB straight into a PC, like a normal USB HDD.
I brought it months ago, always used the LAN method, and now I want to change and stick it on USB. Runs fine across the LAN. Doesn't work via USB.
The Power Supply is Connected (Won't even turn on without it, for the record).
The USB Cable is either firmly connected to a USB 4 Port Hub (Only this device connected to it) OR the Main USB Ports on back of PC.Once the USB Cable is connected both ends, XP gives the sound to indicate it's connected, yet after about 15-20 seconds, it auto-disconnects, giving the according disconnect Sound.
I never see a Drive Letter appear, the only indications I see at all it's connected, is the sound, and viewing the Device Manager - where-in the USB Controllers section there is a "USB Mass Storage Device" listed.Mixing all the above information together, I have no idea what's going on -_- I turn to you! Thanks!

Lucky I kept this window open! It's been about an hour or two since I wrote that, I still have problems! I notice that if I hit the properties of the "USB Mass Storage Device", it says it hasn't installed drivers. Now, it doesn't do it itself, and it doesn't allow me the time to do it either, as it just disconnects.So I went to the Companies website I brought it from, turns out it's a real obscure Enclosure thing made in Taiwan somewhere, who havn't released Drivers for it (at least that I can tell, they have done Firmware updates though by the looks of things).
-SO-, I'm stumped? I need general purpose Enclosure Drivers, or something, the Product comes with no CD. Unless anyone has some bright ideas? ^_^
Thanks in advance for your help!

ONE of the Products websites, as several Taiwanese companies have the same product? lol?

This is exactly what I have.

I would be tempted to remove the drive from that enclosure and connect it with either an inexpensive IDE2USB adapter cable or an external USB box.

When the drive is connected go to Disk Management and see if the drive appears there. You may need to take ownership of the files. the link below explains how.

Aegis: Although this Enclosure does brag the ability of NAS, or whatever it's called, heh, it should equally support it's own in-built ability to work via USB. I know I probably sound b*tchy saying this, but it sounds like I purchased a product that only does 50% of it's job, or it's faulty ^_^;;
I work for the company I brought it from, I know I can get it exchanged, but before going down that lengthy road I will call my own Companies support see if they have links for the Driver. Thanks for the reply, Aegis :)OtheHill: I constantly refreshed the Disk Management screen whilst it was trying to connect, when it was connected and after it disconnected itself - I didn't see it appear at all to attempt any Ownership Claims. It seems it's failing to connect to my PC at all due to the Driver problem it seems :/
Thanks for your help folks thus far, judging by the received replies this is quite unusual, so it's probably already time to speak to my Retailing folk for a Fix/Exchange/Source for Drivers!
Thank god I keep all my receipts! And thank you again! ^_^

I googled NAS and after reading a bit about it I suspect that may be the reason it doesn't stay connected as a USB device. If that is the case getting a replacement may not help, if you want to use it for both.

Oh no, definitely not, it specifically states all across the box and stuff that it can NOT do both at the same time, but I'm not attempting so >_<;; Just USB only is what I'm working towards.
I just re-attached it to the Network, operating fine still in those regards, hoping there was something in the Devices Web Interface I may need to configure, yet there is nothing about USB, only settings for NAS Usage and stuff :/
**Some time later**
For god sake, I just tried it on our MEGA old Family Computer, running Windows 98SE, it DETECTED IT?! And started installing drivers, it must be my frickin' Computer, something is interfering with it!? Maybe I should start with unplugging unnecessary USB peripherals.Christ almighty. Thanks for keeping in touch OtheHill ^_^;;

Alright, found the solution, it was a stupid mistake, which apparently makes the Enclosure work fine on the LAN, but not via USB.
The Hard Drive was set to Cable Select, rather then Master via the Jumpers :/
For those whoever suffer this problem, take your Hard Drive out of the Enclosure, look next to where the Cables plug in, should be a two rows of (possibly) 5 Pins, move the Jumper (possibly) to the far left 2 pins. Although I'd recommend following the Printed Explanation on top of the HDD, or the letters next to the Pins, maybe MS, CS and... dunno what Slave is -_- But choose MS, the Master!
Right, nightmare over! ^^ Anyone is welcome to correct my Acronyms for the Jumpers, working off the top of my head.
