usb hard drive not behaving normally on my PC

May 5, 2011 at 21:36:45
Specs: Windows Vista
I have connected an old Quantum LP240A drive to my Sony laptop running Vista. The drive is from an old Compaq 486 system that ran Win 3.1. The system seems to know a drive is there, but it does not show it in Win explorer or on 'My computer'

I also connected it to an Win XP system and the same thing occurred, with the exception that the XP system knows its a Quantum LP240a, but still I cant access it with explorer or 'My computer'

Any ideas? I just want to get rid of the old Compaq without keeping it around just to access this hard drive.

I'm using a universal hard drive adapter to connect.

Any ideas?

Look for the external drive in Windows Disk Management. If it shows there, post all the information that is listed for that drive.

It shows no more info that I mentioned. If I try to populate the drive properties on xp, it does say that it cannot find driver.

Windows DISK MANAGEMENT. Is that where you looked? If it shows there at all the information is different. You must highlight the drive/partition first.
