Subject: USB flash drive does not work. OS: Windows XP Professional SCPU/Ram: Intel Celeron 2.13 GHz, 1Model/Manufacturer: VIA 845 based motherboard |
Comment: I have a Celeron 2.13 GHz processor on VIA 845 based motherboard with 128 MB RAM. I have a Transcend JetFlash 256MB USB Pen Drive. The problem is that the drive does not work on my machine. Whenever I plug it in it gets detected properly, but if I try to copy anything from it, it refuses to workk. The LED on the drive flashes as it does when you are writing to the drive but nothing happens. Until you pull out the drive physically, it hangs up Windows Explorer. The drive works fine on almost every other machine I tested on. Also, I have an external USB Hard disk which woks just fine on the same machine. What could be the problem? I have tried all 4 USB ports on the machine with the same result.

Reply: (edit)What drives do you have on your PC (C, D, etc)? If you have NW drives, you might find that the flash drive is trying to use the same letter as something else. Just a guess but, I have seen that cause issues before with nw mappings

Reply: (edit)Thanks a lot Dirty_Sanchez and rontab No, I do not have any NW drvies on my PC. When I plug in the drive, it gets detected fine and even gets assigned a drive letter correctly. I can even open and view the files in Windows Explorer. When I try to copy from it, it hangs and even hangs windows explorer. As for the drive being loose, I checked that as well. It is one of those drives with a push-out connector and it has been loose for a while. I am aware of that. But I am careful to see that it is not loose when it is connected. Besides, it works on every other machine I have tried it on. That's about 15 machines. Could anything else be the problem. I would really appreciate help on this because I have a lot of work on that drive. Thanks everyone.
