Hi,
I am having trouble with my new PNY Attaché 2G which is giving me trouble on my laptop. I previously had a PNY Attaché 512M but that was broken so I have the 2 GB one as a replacement.
I used my old Attaché on my laptop with no problem whatsoever.
When I go to insert my new Attaché, it recognizes the new hardware and prompts me for a driver. I point it to the path for the drivers compatible with ALL Attaché flash drives (as per PNY's website) and Windows simply tells me it can't find a compatible driver that matches the hardware.
I am trying to resolve this and I have tried everything: Removing the driver files, removing registry keys (for the USB drivers and hardware IDs), and even re-installing the drivers. Nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas as to a way to remove all of the previous drivers or to install a PNY Attaché 2G on Windows 98 (according to my situation)?
Thanks,
Todd

USB device drivers for the original Win 98 are different from the USB device drivers for 98SE.
You can't use the drivers for 98SE with 98.If you can't find drivers for the original win 98 (it was never called Win 98FE - that is label that has been tacked on long after 98SE was released), you could try generic drivers.
These allow many USB devices that have no drivers for 98 and 98SE to work in those operating systems - also supports USB 2.0 controllers.
Win98 original, modified from the 98SE version.

Posts here says it isn't necessarily necessary to remove existing USB drivers:
http://help.lockergnome.com/windows...If that doesn't help, or if the USB driver you already have was for the original Win 98 and it worked fine before, you may have another problem. In that case see response 3 in this:
http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwb...If a device was sharing an IRQ with USB controller related device, after you have cured that problem you must re-load the Windows USB stack. I can point you to info about how to do that.

The drivers I downloaded from PNY worked on my laptop with my old Attaché 512M but do not work with my new Attaché 2G. PNY says they work with all PNY Attaché models. If they worked on Windows 98 before, why don't they work now?
One thing I noticed in the registry keys for the flash drive is that it is recognized as USB\VID_6544 and in the driver information file, it covers 6540 and 6545. Would it be possible that PNY hasn't made drivers compatible with Windows 98 for their new Attaché 2G?

"Would it be possible that PNY hasn't made drivers compatible with Windows 98 for their new Attaché 2G?"
Yes, that's quite possible, and quite common.
Double check the info on the PNY site.
If you're sure they will work in the original Win 98 for the 2gb, uninstall the drivers in Add/Remove Programs if there is an entry for them, re-install them.
If that doesn't help.....
- you could try the generic drivers in any case
- you could take a look at the link near the end of response 1 to see if it might be something else that is causing the problem.......
More info for the end of response 1:
If a device was sharing an IRQ with USB controller related device, after you have cured that problem you must re-load the Windows USB stack.Open Device Manager.
Un-install the USB root hub(s) and host controller(s) *in that order*.
Unplug all USB devices. If your keyboard is USB, hold the power button in until the computer shuts off.
Plug in your USB devices, or at least your usb mouse and usb keyboard if applicable.
Boot the computer.
Scandisk may want to run while booting - let it.
Windows will automatically reload the USB stack.
Try your USB devices......
If your keyboard is PS/2....
Shut down the computer.
If you have no mouse with all USB devices disconnected.....
Hold down Ctrl and Alt, press Del, let go of the keys.
Press S.Plug in your USB devices, or at least your usb mouse if applicable.
Boot the computer.
Windows will automatically reload the USB stack.
Try your USB devices.
.....I'm using the 98SE version of the generic drivers and they work for most USB devices, including a card reader, a Kingston Traveller flash drive, and a Lexar flash drive that have no 98SE drivers. They don't work for an iPod Shuffle, and probably don't work for other iPod devices.

Yo,
I have the same system as yours if i understand your original post,(Win98 using an PNY 2g Attache flash drive). It runs perfect on mine with the win98se drivers.
If you need a list of the drivers i have installed for it, e-mail me at
BWBDKB@bellsouth.net and i,ll upload them to you. I am running a SiS 7001 PCI to USB open host controller on my machine, don't know if that's what makes the difference. Also i think you have to have the USB for Dos setting enabled in your main hardware settings. It could be because i have a lot of non-standard fixes and stuff loaded into my computer that seems to make stuff that's not supposed to run on win98 work like magic,(there i said it). I have had similar success with lots of other products that also aren't supposed to work but are alive and doing fine. Lots of GOOD luck.BWB
