USB drive will not function or format

October 5, 2010 at 09:27:25
Specs: Windows XP
I have a 1GB USB flash device that was a gift. It's engraved, so I'd prefer if I could get it to work again. The device will not open electronically and I'm ok with losing all data stored on it, but when I try to format it, I get an error saying the device cannot be formatted.

Disk: Disk 1
Type: Unknown
Status: Unreadable
Partition style: Not Applicable
Capacity: 0MB
Unallocated space: 0MB
Reserved space: 0MB

Any thoughts as to what I could do to save this device? Any sort of manual override?

Was the USB drive second hand?

It could be in the ExFAT format and Windows Xp cannot read that (To my knowledge)

Find someone with vista/7 and try it in that computer.

If its not broken, Fix it until it is
