When I plug in the Sandisc Mini-Cruzer, the LaunchU3 software runs loading the virtual cdrom drive, but the data partition is not lited. If I change the drive letter in drive management, I can access it only through drive mgmt. If I goto Start and run the drive letter, it comes up saying the drive letter is not a valid file association and I need to make one in Folder Options.
Any suggestions?
It's the same problem as response #4 in this post: http://www.computing.net/windows95/...
The only trick is that it's not a problem with network drives since it doesn't matter if I change the drive letter.

Sometimes Windows lose track of what's what - just like human. When this happen the right thing to do is reboot the computer. Did you do that before you insert the USB stick?

Yes and either booting with or without the key inserted has no effect. It still won't show up in Explorer. The interesting part is that the drive is fully accessable on any other PC/notebook I try it on.

Your last shot is to follow this MSKB to remove and reinstall all USB controllers. This usually solve the issues for most users. Be sure you have disconnected ALL USB devices before you proceed.

Well, here's the deal. I haven't yet tried to uninstall/re-install the USB controller, but I did manage to get the key working... ish...
After many reboots with the device attached, it finally showed up in Explorer. However, once I safely removed it and re-attached it, only the virtual cdrom showed up again. If I rebooted the notebook with it attached it was fine again.
Through everything I've read, I can't come up with a good reason why this is happening.
