I was trying to save a Word doc to my USB drive when I got an error message today saying my disk was full. I checked and I still had 25% of my volume available, but I still wasn't able to save. It seems like the failure to save has done something to my drive because none of my computers recognize the drive anymore. The light comes on when I plug it in, but it doesn't show up in My Computer or when I try to Safely Remove Hardware. I have to turn the computer off to shut the drive down. Any ideas on how to force my computer to recognize the drive or to repair the file?

What kind of a drive are you talking about? Floppy drive, flash drive, external hard drive, etc.

OK, you are saying that when you power up the computer, plug in your flash drive, now click on Start, click on My Computer, the flash drive does not appear in the listing under Devices with Removable Storage, is that correct?

Thanks for the link. I think I am toast. I've done everything they suggested here, but my drive doesn't show up on My Computer even though the light turns on on the drive.

I had a similar problem with a new flash drive. I could not see it in my computer, but I could "remove" it. The problem was it was defaulting to "E" drive and that letter was already mapped. Had to go to Start/Admin Tools/Computer Management/Disk Management and right click on the flash drive and change the drive letter mapping to something not used. Worked perfectly after that.
