Hello!
I would like to ask a question about allowed equipment for USB-to-USB computers connection.
I thought it is possible to connect two PCs only using a special USB cable (with PCP decoupling) because in that case both of the connected ports are current sources.
However, there are Computer-to-Computer USB cables that look like ordinary USB (type AA) cables. Moreover, they cost just $2 (two).
How safe is it to use such cable?
Thank you!

Can you post a link? I was under the impression that a computer--to--computer USB data cable had some electronics, like maybe a UART chip in there.

Hi,

USB laplink cables are quite common.

UK site

Only USB 1.1 speeds. I've not seen one that is USB 2 to USB 2 though.

Might not be lighting fast, but the one I have is dead simple and easy to use.

Quick search somewhere found this cable which claims to be USB 2 to USB 2

Two Windows Explorer like windows side by side on screen. Red or green "LED" indication near the clock on each machine to show the connecion & software are working.

From what I've read they are very widely available.

You cannot simply use a USB to USB cable without the electronics and software. You risk damaging either or both computers.
