Hi.
My 128 usb is filled to zero from sector 0x0000 to 0x01F0. The capacity is now of 16 MB and is unformatted. I want to recover my information. I use some utils like active recovery partition, paragon partition manager, the diskmgmt.msc from win XP.
From Linux ubuntu 5.01 I see the same bad system file. I saw a www where successful recovered the information. But my problem is different. Or not?
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article...Can some one help me, please???
Come to me all who you are borried and wasted, and I shall give you rest and peace.
JesusChrist.

Are you sure "zero from sector 0x0000 to 0x01F0" ? If so it is different than probem in link and very difficault to repair in a forum (long distance).
If it was zero filled to 01f0 , you lost the MPT (Master Partition Table), VBR (Volume Boot Record) and the first part of primary FAT. You would still have the secord FAT , there for it would be posible to recover.
If you have another USB drive of the same size, you would need to copy the MBR & VBR form good to bad. Then replace the primary FAT with the backup.
I do not use XP or have a USB drive so do not know just what programs will work. Might have a look at WinHex
http://www.winhex.com/winhex/

Thanks a lot!!!!
I going to try it... just a correction
Zero full filled from 0x00000000 To 0x00FFFFF0
So, 16 MB zero filled...
Cylinders : 2
Heads: 255
Sectors: 63
Bytes/sector: 512
Rev. Firmware: 3.00
Do you believe there's hope yet? Thanks again.

Cylinders : 2
Heads: 255
Sectors: 63
Bytes/sector: 512That data says the device is only 16mb.
"Zero full filled from 0x00000000 To 0x00FFFFF0"
"Do you believe there's hope yet?" No
could it be you are not correctly interpeting all the data corretly (?) your only hope.
What program are you useing that says drive is zero filled and the heads, sectors info ?
After just a format , peoply say they have had luck but after a zero write, no way for us. Would take a professional and lots of $$$.

Whit a hex editor I see the next information:
Sectors: 32768
Cylinders: 2
Heads: 255
Sectors by tracks: 63Model: M-Sys S1 UCL Mode
Rev Firmware: 3.00
Bus: USBCapacity: 16MB (16,777,216 bytes)
From 0x00000000 to 0x00FFFFF0 it has just 00 values.
I want to recover my information, please help me!!!
I tried some tools like getdataback, active partition recovery, active undelete,
partition magic 8, paragon partition manager, easy recovery 6.0, etc.I see a solution in Internet, but my problem is a bit different.

When I try to replace the bad first sector whit a new one,
The winHex editor can´t write in the bad usb disk,What more can I do???
An sure, from linux it's the same information...
Thanks, man!!!

"The winHex editor can´t write in the bad usb disk" that would tell me there is a phyical damage to the disk and the first 16mb is lost with my zero knowlege on USB memory stick drives. With the knowlege and equipment one might be able to replace the bad component in drive.
Depending on the file types the data on the last 16mb might be saveable. It will take some work to do so. The first thing would be to use Winhex and save the last 16m to a file on hdd. To try and give more help, will need to know the file types to be recovered.
Some file types the first 16 bytes or so(header) will identify the begainging and type of file. Knowing the header data bytes
one can then use Winhex and do a search for the bytes."I see a solution in Internet, but my problem is a bit different." totol different, yours is a hardware failure. You might , if you have not, try the USB drive in a different comp. Maybe but not likely the Windows software is not correctly sending the correct commands to read the device, Winhex may or may not do it the same way.
Might be worth it and try a Live Linux cd, google for one.

Thanks for your help....
THIS IS MY BAD USB:Sectors: 32768
Cylinders: 2
Heads: 255
Sectors by tracks: 63AND THIS IS A GOOD USB (SAME CAPACITY):
Sectors: 251904
Cylinders: 15
Heads: 255
Sectors by tracks: 63If I just try to change those parameters... can I recover some information...?
I was trying so, but winhex says that sector xxxxxxxxx does´n exist. Ok, I´ll try another solution. Please help, I want so much to recover my information.
I wrote to kingston, not response yet...
I'm going to try format (quickly option) whit "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" and then try to recover whit some tools like ???? (recovering lost files after partitioning)
Ok, I'll be back here later...
Thanks a lot...
See you!

Useing WinHex- File/Create Disk Image, 'exact steps you will need to use the help' save image from USB drive to HDD.
Next - Tools/Disk Tools/File Recovery by Type
"again use HELP" useing the image you made above.I can not tell you how to do above, do not have a USB drive or a paid version of WinHex.
Check the USB drive carefully at the connetor, it might have bent pins causing the problem, compare to the good USB drive.
Might check out for professional recovery:
http://www.eprovided.com/
cost: looks like about $45
http://www.eprovided.com/digital-im...I have never used the service.
It is very unlikely that I will be able to really help you.
