Usb 2.0

Specs: Windows XP
I fitted a Pluscom U5P-VT6212L 5 port USB2.0 high speed adapter (PCI). It works, but only at USB1 speed. When I plug my Hitachi USB 2.0 external HDD into this adapter I get a message saying that this device can perform faster if plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

Also, there is no difference in performance if I plug the external HDD into the original USB1 port on my system.

My OS is WindowsXP SP3 and the PC is built on an ECS K7S5A Ver1.0 motherboard (SiS 735 chipset).
Is it possible to get this adapter to work properly with this system?

Hello, Thanks for your prompt reply.
I downloaded and installed this driver. The install wizard indicated (during the installation)
that the driver version was 5.1.2066.1106, but after installation
device manager shows version 5.1.2600.0 dated 06/01/2002. I
think this is the same driver that WindowsXP SP3 provides.
And there is no improvement in USB speed.
