USB 2.0 switched to 1.0/1.1??

I'm not a computer expert so please bear with me. My laptop has 4 usb 2.0 slots which were working fine till yesterday. Whenever I plug in my mp3/devices a message pops up saying HI-Speed USB attached to non hi-speed usb. It lists the usb devices. I have tried to update and roll back the drivers to no avail. My Win XP version is running on service pack 2. Also uninstalled the usb but that hasn't worked either. The device lists it as a Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller 265A, if thats of any use to anyone at all.
