I was wondering if you need the XP service pack 1 to use any USB 2.0 ports built into a motherboard or if the service pack is only needed with one of those PCI USB 2.0 cards?
I'd rather not get the service pack 1 for XP. I heard it causes more problems then it solves.

There are not USB 2.0 drivers written by third parties for winXP. WinXPsp1 is where you get the USB2.0 drivers.

Microsoft doesn't have the option of downloading and then installing updates for XP. You need to do live updates. If you want USB2.0 you are going to need to update to sp1.
