Hi, I'm just wondering if it's possible to use a PCI card for USB 2.0 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=4407628119&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=32620) without a USB 2.0 motherboard?

My friend's actually the one who's doing this but I've never heard it before!

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Yes, it is that is exactly what they are designed for, to add USB 2.0 functionality to a non-USB 2.0 system. I have used a number of them. Most you have to load a driver for the card, but the USB 2.0 connections on the card should work fine afterwards.

Yes it is possible. My ASUS motherboard is older and has USB 1.1 on it.

I have actually tried 2 different USB 2.0 cards. The first one may or may not have worked (no USB 2.0 devices to try at that time) so I replaced it with an Adaptec USB 2.0 card that I got on sale for under $10 with rebates. The first card was free after rebates. I bought the Adaptec card because I knew that if any brand would work well, it would be Adaptec instead of the first one ("no name" brand).

I am now running an external hard drive on the Adaptec card and it runs perfectly. It was very easy to install too.
