It worked fine and not it doesn't. I think the card and the cards software are fine. Device manager says everything is perfect and working.
Others have had this problem but I haven't found the answer in other posts here. No matter what device I plug in the 2.0 card I'm told
"USB Device Not Recognized" I click on the
message and it shows up in bold "Unknown
Device" So the card seems to work. It knows
you plugged something in, it knows which port
you plugged it in to. It just doesn't know
what the hell it is and because of this it
won't work. I would just like to know what to
look for. I might be wrong but I feel like
I could take the card out 100X and put it back in and take the software off and put it
back on and it wouldn't help at all. I think
some other software is corrupted but I don't
know what to look for. Thanks for the help

Could this have damaged the card? I plugged in a USB WI-FI device. It worked. It had batteries inside the unit that charge up from the PC's USB. After about 5 minutes my PC stopped recognizing the USB WI-FI device. I returned it thinking that was defective. Then I discovered nothing was recognized anymore in my USB card. Ya think that thing I returned damaged the card?

Given that's when it stopped working, it'd be a good guess that was the reason. The device may have been pulling more current than the card could provide. You may want to just replace the card--they're cheap enough. In the future it's probably best to use a USB hub with its own power supply for things like that.

There are 5 usb ports on the card - have you tested them all?
Possibly only one has blown and the others are ok.
Here in the UK, such devices are only around £9.
Also when connecting usb devices, I understand it is best to have installed the drivers for the device concerned, before connecting it to the usb port.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

I think it's the card. I will replace it. None of the ports on it work. I won't plug anything like that in the new one. I'll let you all know and thanks. I built the PC and the two original
1.1 ports still work so I was able to get some
important stuff off my camera but the camera prefers 2.0 it gives an error message with 1.1 but it works at least.

Hello I have the exact same problem with a new USB 2.0 4+1 card. I cant even plug a usb memory stick! Its very annoying, does someone have a suggestion besides from buing a new card?
Thanks a lot

Have you tried it in different slots?
If it has drivers, are you sure they have been correctly installed?
If you had a similar devious previously installed, did you remove its drivers?
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Hy, I exchanged my new PCI card and it turned out to be a defective card. When I installed the new one everything worked perfectly, even with the windows XP default drivers.
Thanks a lot for the reply
