I have a problem with my computers USB ports/hubs. Firstly, I should mention that I have a Gigabyte GA-8ST800 Motherboard which claims to support USB 2.0. The Windows device manager says I have 3 SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controllers and one SiS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller. It then proceeds to tell me that I have one USB 2.0 Root Hub, and three USB Root Hubs. The USB 2 reports six ports available, and the other hubs report 2 apiece. According to this, I should have 12 ports - I really only have six. These six appear to be the USB 1.1 hubs since 1) the devices will appear under these ports and 2) whenever and wherever I plug in a USB 2 disk it will inform me that its connected to a normal usb port and I should plug it into one of the six USB 2 ports available.

Does anyone have any idea how I can use these USB 2 ports? Or at least why it reports 12 when I only have 6 (note: there is no other space on the motherboard to connect more ports)? Any help will be appreciated.

Have you looked thru the BIOS pages to perhaps "enable 2.0" ?

Some of the 12 listed ports are probably on an internal USB header.

Since SP1 has all necessary USB 2.0 drivers, go to device manager, right click on each line under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and select "update driver". Let XP go through its process and see if they're converted to USB 2.0. As you said, your motherboard is supposed to support USB 2.0.

Good luck,
Sandor
