I'm looking at buying the following:
Western Digital 80GB Passport External USB2.0 2.5 inch Hard Drive

Will this work on my pc that is usb 1.1 or will I need to buy a pci card for it, I know it would be slower, but it's the working that i'm worried about!

I'm after this type as I want one that will run from USB and not mains!

Thanks Ian

USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB 1.1. It will work but at USB 1.1 speeds. To get USB 2.0 speeds you will need to add a USB 2.0 card.

2.0 will work with devices intended for 1.1 but not everything intended for 2.0 will work with 1.1. The only thing you can do is try it and see.

But I'd get a 2.0 card. They're cheap enough and you'll need one to get proper usage from most new USB stuff.
