Subject: usb 1.1 and usb 2.0 both at a time?OS: win xp proCPU/Ram: p3 1ghz/512mb |
Comment: d815 series motherboard here. It has usb 1.1 which is working ok. I know that If I add a pci 4 port usb 2.0 card I will be able to use usb 2.0 on this board. My question is if I add the card then will I be able to use usb 1.1 at the same time or will it be automatically disabled ? thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)You will be able to use both. I'm doing exactly the same thing. My motherboard only has integrated USB 1.1, so I added a USB 2.0 PCI card. USB 2.0 is MUCH faster.I - Sandor JSound judgement, with discernment, is the best of seers. - Euripides (B.C. 480 - 406)ATI is great, but never buy it from Sapphire!!!

Reply: (edit)XpUser is overly optimistic. While the ads state that USB 2.0 is 40 times faster than USB 1.1, in actual day to day use I find that USB 2.0 is about 12 times faster than USB 1.1. In fact the slower the PC (in GHz), the smaller the multiplier. As an example with Pentium Celeron Notebook @ 1.5 GHz and 512 MB DDR RAM, comparing a sample transfer between USB 1.1 (integrated) and USB 2.0 (PCMCIA card), the speed was only 4 times as fast. Your mileage will vary.I - Sandor JKnowledge is the treasure, but judgment is the treasurer of the wise man. - William Penn (1614 - 1718)ATI is great, but never buy it from Sapphire!!!

Reply: (edit)XpUser is overly optimistic Oh yeah - tell that to Iomega that stated it, and to EverythingUSB.com that also stated it. Of course as you said, your mileage may vary :-) i_XpUser
