My freind gave me an external US Robotics Sportster 14400 Fax Modem (CCITT V.32 bis with V.42 bis), but it doesn't have the power supply, I was wondering what it uses, the voltage, amperage, and if it is AC or DC. The ratings aren't listed on the unit, thanks.
Also, does it use a serieal or parallel port? it has a female DB 25 connector behind it. (I know, probably a stupid question)

If you go to US robotics, you might be able to find out. Personally, I'd go get a 56K modem instead of messing with that, but I also don't know what your budget is either.

When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!

Probably 9V DC. It is definately a serial device.

14.4K, do you really want to bother? Most people find 56K way too slow!

I got it for free, it is for a WFW 3.11 computer, I don't have enough money to buy a new one, nor do I have a credit card, also it is an ISA bus computer, besides the tipical connection in my area is 14.4 anyways, even on a 56k. Thanks, I'll try 9v. I'll post back if it doesn't work.

NO DAM IN DO NOT """""TRY"""" 9v.

MAKE SURE

That's how we do what is called

"Letting the smoke out."

I'd bet that if you look around the internet, plug the model number into Google, you might just find out.

I'll look, I might have one down in the basement.

Many of the external modems used 9V AC.

There is NO standardization on those stupid, irritating, power connectors. Some are "shell positive," some are opposite, they can be DC or AC, and almost any voltage.

You can "blow stuff up," here.
