Get DSL or Cable. Upgrading your system will make no appreciable increase in browsing speed. The bottleneck is the modem.

I don't know about that. Flash-infested pages slow down my 1ghz P3, and some flash animations on newgrounds.com make my P4 2.0 chug along!

Which chipset is that PC using? If it's a 440LX, your max processor will be the 733mhz Celeron, which really isn't worth the upgrade. If it's a 440BX or 810/815, you'll be able to install up to a 1.1ghz Pentium III, which will definitely give you a speed boost.

You should be able to upgrade the RAM to at least 384mb with three slots; this will help with big jpegs/streaming movies.

You can add Ram to 128Mb or more! But now the sdram is too costly.

So i think you'd better buy a new machine

Hi
I recently did an upgrade for a machine 450Mhz Processor on a PIII Board for the sake of Internet alone. I just installed WIN Pro NT 2000 and did a RAM Upgrade of 512 MB with 2*256 SDRAM. There were also having 64 MB Ram with 8 GB HDD. I just formatted the machine (low level) and installed WIN 2000 and increased the RAM to 512. That did the trick. the SDRam is a bit expensive (512 MB is about $70 equvivalent in India) but it was worth than buying a new machine with PIV etc. In order to Boost your internet connection you can try out hosts of free software available throughout the net. If you are taking a cable connection then you will be having a great speed.Hope you can make use of the above.

The only upgrade I would bother with would be to increase the ram and get a PCI graphics card of say 32mb or maybe 64mb onboard VRAM.

I have a couple of similar spec systems and they are more than adequate for netsurfing and basic office applications.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
