I have a Compaq D300 p4 1.7Ghz and ONLY 128 SDRAM with in it...I want to upgrade with an extra 256Mb module, but do I really have to buy orginal Compaq modules or can I also use modules such as Corsair etc.??

no, you do not need to buy Compaq modules, but be sure to check your mobo manual before you buy to be sure you purchase the proper type of RAM. if you have pc133 in it now and install a stick of 256mb pc100 both sticks will only run @ 100 mhz. also, what the maximum ram capacity of the mobo is.
