Subject: Upgrading mobo and CPU....OS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 2.2GHz / 1GbModel/Manufacturer: Custom |
Comment: Hey everybody.. I recently discoverd a very cheap computer store in my area and I am now contemplating getting a new Mobo/CPU to keep me going untill my AGP 6800Ultra cant keep up.. At the moment the real part of my computer setup that is holding me back is my processor, I have pleny of ram and my graphics card is good.. So would it be worth buying a A64 3700+ with a Gigabyte K8NSC motherboard and ride that system out with my 6800U? Admitedly I made a very big mistake buying the 6800U for my AGP system and I should have saved it for a better PCI-E system.. But now I have to deal with this.. So the plan is: Buy a Gigabyte K8NSC AGP motherboard and a 3700+ stick in my 6800Ultra and use the crap out of the computer for all its worth. Good plan or not? I think that the motherboard is 'decent-ish' for the price and at least it has a good chipset.. OH, Jam I replaced my horrible 'RITMO' PSU and have a much better Cooler Master dual 12V PSU.. I dont think I will get PSU related problems anymore.. Thanks for any input. Mattwizz3 : ) Sempron 2600+ @ 2.2GHz 1Gb DDR400 Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe 200GB SATA / 80Gb IDE 256Mb MSI 6800 Ultra

Reply: (edit)hmmm, yeah I was thinking that maby I should sell my current setup in parts to buy a new setup... I was just thinking to use my current graphics and RAM because the mobo was only $89 (Australian).. Still thinking. Thanks for your suggestions. Reply: (edit)If you're gonna make the leap to an A64 system, go all the way...either AM2 or S939 w/PCI-E. Don't let your AGP card hold you back.

Reply: (edit)Yeah, I understand that it is a good Idea to go straight to PCI-E.. But then I also want to go AM2 then DDR2.. I just think that this will make a good setup for a "middle computer" before I can actually afford to buy a good spec computer. I finish school in a couple of months and pretty much as soon as I get a job I will probably start saving to put money towards a good PCI-E system.. I also dont picture myself buying another video card before socket 939 is gone anyway.. with the 3700+ for just $155 and the mobo for $89 (Australian currency) it seems like a nice deal to me. If I was to go to AM2 DDR2, and PCI-E it would end up fairly costly. I really appreciate your input guys. Reply: (edit)HMMM... with all comments concidered, I'm just gonna spend that money on a new screen instead.. its really time to get rid of this 13" horrible, horrible monitor.. If I dont replace it now I could end up with a monster machine with a 13" screen... Like having a W12 in a mini minor! Heh. Once again appreciate your comments.
