Specs: Windows XP
I have a mobile celeron, 1.8GHz that I wish to replace with a pentium in a laptop. The processor is socket 478 mPGA and has 400 MHz FSB, 256Kb L2 cache. The motherboard has an ATI chipset RS200/RS200m and ALI southbridge M1533.

What pentium processor can I upgrade to, if it is possible. My laptop supports up to 1 GB memory.

I am thinking of upgrading to Pentium M, say 1.7GHz, rather than Mobile Pentium because it should run a lot cooler, is that right? and offer at least 50% more performance than the 1.8GHz mobile celeron I have. I am not sure if the Pentium M will fit. Is it the same socket?, and would my motherboard support it?
