i was cleaning out my garage and found my old toshiba T4400C laptop. i was gonna throw it out buy i thought it would be perfect for my neice to use and start to get familar with computers. what i wanna know is how much can i upgrade it? its a 486dx right now, i'd like to atleast install a pentium in it. i've been looking around the net and even email toshiba but they didnt respond. if anyone has any info or could point me in the right direction i would appreciate it. thanks

do not spend any money on that. You can buy on ebay for 200$ good laptop

if laptop is a 486 than can't put pentium in as different size cpu, like comparing apples & oranges both are fruit but different

Check this out first. If you don't like that the only other thing I would recommend would be ebay for a memory upgrade. You will never upgrade the processor. Another option would be to run it as is- windows 98 might run on it if you can network a copy over to it. Or you might want to try windows 3.1 with calmira running on top. Kinda fun. Good luck.

thanks for the advice but i dont want another one, it just something i wanted for my neice. do you think i could put another hdd in it? this one is less than a gig.

As previously mentioned the only worthwhile upgrade is memory. If you have more than 32 MB that is enough. Many of the earlier systems came with with 500-1000 MB hard drives. It was enough to run Win95 and earlier versions of Office. I have a Toshiba T2155, 486 with 540 MB hard drive, 12 MB ram, originally with Win95.
