Comment:

Right now I've got a 266 FSB. I'm thinking about upgrading to an XP 3000+ (400 FSB). I have an A7N8X Deluxe MoBo.
Here's the Question.

Would it be better to:

1) Buy DDR400 and scrap the DDR333

2) Buy another DDR333 and use the dual chanel 2x DDR333

3) Buy a DDR400 and use dual chanel with the DDR333

go with 1 if you can afford it

#2- from what I understand, the nforce2 chipset doesn't utilize the dual channel as good as the P4 chipsets use dual channel.

#3- your DDR400 would run at 333 and have no benefit other than the addition of memory to the system

also with 2,3 what's the sense in having the 400FSB CPU if you don't use it right?

Lastly, why waste your money on a 400FSB cpu? this is the last FSB increase CPU AMD will put out on the XP line. Example is when the 266 "were top of the line" future upgrades to 333 and 400 were in the works...nothing exists above 400

Stick with the 333 Barton core, I belive it still goes to XP3000 albeit at a slower clock, but with DDR rated higher than your max FSB you can oc your FSB better..Example- I have XP1800 @ 266 which requires at a minimum of PC2100..so if i plan to OC i'll get PC3000 to oc the FSB, that way the memory is still performing within spec
