I would like to upgrade my computer but I don't exactly know what I need to buy. It's been so long since I've built a computer, I guess I got left behind and now all of this new technology is bombarding me from both sides.
*You'll have to excuse the rhying* :)

I would like to purchase the following
-CPU
-Motherboard
-Memory (If needed)
-Full Tower Case (If Possible)

My current computer has the following:
-CPU: 1.6 GHZ P4 Socket 478
-Motherboard: Abit SD7-533
-Memory: 768MB DDR PC2100

I would mainly use the computer for doing research, watching movies, and downloading\Uploading files. My spending limit is only $300-$350.00, I hope I can get something decent.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,
Mike

Keep what you have, it should be fine for that. Why do you wish to upgrade?

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

I agree with jefro that your computer should be able to perform those tasks. Maybe you are loaded with spyware/ malware. Do you defrag your drive occasionally? You don't mention what graphics card you currently have, that may be your weak link.

The computer performs all tasks just fine. It's just that I am prepping for my network+ test and I was thinking about using the new computer as a practice server, plus I would atleast have some of the latest technology. The new computer would set an open path for future upgrades, not much you can do with a socket 478 motherboard...Little outdated I must say.

I would suggest you look at MBoards based on AMD AM2 with 430 chipset, which has HD onboard nVidia 6150 video . There are many boards, all with slightly different feature sets. PSU needs to be 24 wire power connector.
