Comment:

I have a computer with an Asus P2B-F motherboard. It
currently has a 500mhz P3 cpu (slot 1) in it now. i want to
upgrade that so i can play Grand Theft Auto 3 on it. It is
quite tolerable now, but some things dont load quickly. (it
has a 32mb GeForce 2 video card). I just want to know
what the fastest CPU i can run in it is. Is it really only a
600mhz P3? Or can it run a 1ghz P3?

THanks

Looks like it'll go up to P3-800. That motherboard and video card are getting pretty obsolete. Just upgrading the CPU alone won't do much. Adding more RAM and a hefty 128/256 video card will run that game no problem. Might want to consider upgrading to run today's games.

if i put a CPU more than 800mhz in, and set the multiplier
to the highest (x8.0), will it run at 800mhz or just not
work? I ask becuase i have an 866mhz socket 370 cpu
that i might be able to use in an adapter.

Thanks

I have high doubts that it'll work, and it might damage your CPU and/or motherboard if you try. But...if you feel brave, feel free to give it a shot.

so i am stuck with a cpu at exactly 600 or 800mhz? or
anything that the multiplier will perfectly multiply to?

That's usually how it works. You can try overclocking past 800MHz, but your system will become unstable, and possible damage the CPU, so be careful.

actually, the multiplyer only goes up to 8x, which is
800mhz. so 800 is the fastest i can assign it to act. i was
just wondering if i set a 1ghz to act as 800mhz
(underclocking?) would it work?
