Subject: Upgrade TNT2 to Geforce 4? |
Comment: Hey, I have the nVidia TNT2 32 mb graphics card and am wondering if I would actually see an increase in performace if I spent the money to upgrade to the GeForce4 MX 460. Another viable option might be to wait for the Radeon 9700 due to come out in a couple weeks. I have heard some really good things about it. Any opinions on whether or not I should wait for it? Any thought are appreciated. Thanks, Malu SPECS: 256 SDRAM 40 GB HD 1.2 Athlon nVidia Riva TNT2 m64 (32 mb)

Reply: (edit)Hi, the only good thing about geforce 4 is the graphic performance. so you should upgrade it to geforce 4 128mb. Since you had 1200mhz on your pc and a 256SDram. It DOESN't make any difference really if you buy Radeon 9700 rather than geforce 4, because their Graphic processor unit are the about the same.

Reply: (edit)Heh, I was trying to decide whether I should get a new harddrive or upgrade graphics card. But the "low on disk space" message I saw a few minutes ago was the clincher. But I think I'll get that Radeon maybe in a few months. Malu

Reply: (edit)There are a few things to consider: -YES you will see a massive increase in 3D performance if you go to a 460MX. -"CPU Scaling" as its called shows that the ti4600 is faster then the 9700 at lower CPU speeds, you need 1500+ to get your money from the 9700 -I have a P3-933, I changed from a geforce 2 MX 400 to a ti4200, the performance difference is huge in games such as Aquanox and 3DMARK 2001 (well, although its not quite a game), but I didn't see what I wanted in Medal of Honour, that still ran choppy, especially the beach landing scene. Hope this helps Joni
