Upgrade RAM to increase speed of desktop

Specs: Windows XP, SDRAM 256MB
I have desktop having OS window XP and SDRAM 256MB. My System is very slow and i want to increase the speed. i have one DDR RAM 1GB can I upgrade with this.

No. you cannot put a different type of ram in your slot.

Visit http://www.crucial.com/index.asp and use their scanning tool to tell you what ram is compatible with your system and the maximum amount you can install.

You don't have to buy from there but whatever you get has to have the same specification as they recommend

I can't say the ram will work or not, which one do u have ddr 266/333/400? Better list the system specifications.

All RAM is SDRAM but there are different types - SDR, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, etc. If your board requires SDR-SDRAM, you can NOT install DDR-SDRAM.
