up-grade processer e-machine 533id

CPU/Ram: intel celeron 533 64MB
Comment:

An eldery woman asked me to help her. She has an emachine etower 533id
I want to know if I can upgrade the processer. and if so how high can I go. she desn't have the money to get a new machine. I thought maybe get a new (used) chip cheap !!

You're not gonna be able to upgrade the processor to anything worthwhile. Sorry, but emachines are made to be replaced.

If it's so slow, and she doesn't have the money, pop some more RAM in that bad boy! Take her to 256M, and the difference (to her) will be night and day.

You can email Emachine here and request the system specs on that board.

That will tell you if you can add any faster processor.

The maximum amount of Ram it takes is 256

The Anaheim-2 mobo that's in the 533id will only support up to a 600MHz Celery

As heropsycho posted, up the ram to give some life to that aging dinosaur. (The computer, not grandma!)

No problem. Don't forget to set the computer's role to Network Server to improve disk access, and set her virtual memory to min and max the same...probably 512M would work and a fairly safe choice in case she gets into anything more system intensive.
